feelings for fictional characters… ahhhhh….
i’m having feelings about vriskaaaa ahhhh
ahhhhh vriska my babbu ; ___; whyyyy
why where did you go
please let there be dream bubbles : ; ______;
one of my favorite parts of the story was the first conversation (i think) Vriska has with John after he ascends to god tier. i’m not going to post all the pesterlogs because sproilers, but if you don’t remember all of it here’s the url: http://www.mspaintadventures.com/?s=6&p=005366
the reason why i love these pages so much is although there are some breaks in between, this is where i started to love Vriska. i started to understand her so much more, and really started to understand more of the nuances between troll culture and human culture. when i read it, it… broke my heart a little bit, because although i don’t live in a society based on strict caste systems and brutal survival traditions, i felt a large empathy for Vriska and what she felt was expected of her and how she had to deal with the responsibilities placed on her. her inspiration from Mindfang was also the clearest connection between the ancestors and their descendants, and the way it was presented flowed smooth as whiskey and was just as flavorful. <3
goddamn i can’t pick just one, there’s twelve jesus >:U
just a sketch today, but more time put into this than the last one (probably because it was during primate bio and all i had to do was listen and take occasional notes).
so i chose Vriska and Kanaya for my favorite trolls. it was a hard pick not to choose Terezi, and i’m limiting myself to two-way ties only here. so first of all, Vriska was a fantastic story and something that i relate to as what would have been my future if i had gone down a different path. also her development through the series is one of the most pronounced, and the nuances of her as a character are so perfectly crafted and so so so well done that i can’t help but fall almost in love with her and in love with the writing of her. i don’t want to spoil it for my girlfriend, but all i can say is that she tries so hard, and the transition from troll society into a world with no society and where every social they have been living with just disappears is so so difficult for her. she is a tragic hero so many times and she tries to cover for it in the only way she knows how. her revelations at the end and her attitudes speak so clearly to me as a character.
Kanaya on the other hand is the second most nuanced character i believe besides Vriska. she’s also in the position of doing people’s dirty work and tying up others loose ends. she gets things done. she’s creative, she’s kinda gothy but she also has a distinct personality that reflects a part of myself: the part attracted to danger and challenge. her investment in both Rose and Vriska show this. in addition, her getting shit done attitude is something that pulls the group together whenever shit needs to be done. Kan is willing to do what no one else will, and has no qualms and makes no fuss about it. as a last note, she’s the most predominant ‘gay’ character in the series (beside’s Karkat’s blackrom crushing on John). i’ve heard Hussies writings on how the intersection between how we would understand troll relationships and what actually goes on in them, but for me seeing a gay character without a gay stereotype as a crutch or excuse in a widely read publication (yes, the internet counts as publication) is really exciting. it’s something i can relate to, its validation (even if it is a whole ‘nother kind of romance), and its credit to legitimizing gay feelings and persons. you can dispute all you want that Kan is not gay, but really… there’s a pretty big stack of evidence. the ‘as a fetish’ explanation still translates to ‘gay’ to people who read the comic. (this brings up also the whole topic of how homosexuality is treated by the trolls in the story, and by the humans. i have to say very briefly that the issue is handled fantastically.) that and Kan and Rose make a fierce couple :y
